I know we’re only into the first week of December, but you know how nutty the holidays can get, what with all the merry-making and the eggnog and the various delicious liquors that go in the eggnog, so who knows if we’ll get another Video Hits posted this year. But I have to say, if this is indeed it for the year, it’s a great one to go out on.
For example, we have what many people are already calling the best video of the year: Kalle Matson’s Thick As Thieves. As you’ll see below, this masterpiece now sets the bar for the fairly popular, stop-motion-animation-style videos incredibly high. Done for $250 (using paper and fabric from the Salvation Army), friend of the band Kevin Perry took six months to bring this humourous “history of the world” concept to life, and the results are pretty amazing.
Also, while we’re talking about amazing, Rich Aucoin’s new video for It off of his celebrated full length debut We’re All Dying To Live… is that and then some. Directed by Noah Pink and produced by Shut Up & Colour Pictures, the clip for It is a melange of scenes from 10 of Rich’s favorite movies, all re-enacted by Rich & Friends. On a limited budget, such a thing could be hard to do a convincing job of, but Rich tackled this with the same passion and energy he brings to everything he does, and the results are downright heartwarming. Great video.
Also amazing, but in a more traditionally grand kind of fashion than the two previous, is the video for hill-faves Ox’s single Nico. Directed by John Milne, the video’s soft cinematics and amazing Northern Ontario scenery match the song to a T. Plus there’s a sweet Iron Maiden tee in the video, which is always a plus.
